Aida Brankovic talks all things AI at PHA 2023
Dr Aida Brankovic shared her expertise in applying complex algorithms and artificial intelligence to the development of new medical devices and decision support tools.
One of her research focuses is the technical aspects of responsible AI. In the panel session ‘AI and the Future of Healthcare’, she weighed in on some of the risks of AI and generative AI in healthcare and the private health insurance sector.
Do the rewards of AI outweigh the risks? There’s no ‘right’ answer, but it’s clear that the use of AI in healthcare can offer many benefits. Aida herself is developing algorithms for predicting adverse patient outcomes using electronic medical record (EMR) data in real-time and technical aspects of responsible AI. She and her fellow panel members explored the benefits of AI to the insurance sector, the potential of AI to mitigate low value care, and how AI fits into healthcare as a whole.
They also discussed where Australia is positioned in the AI landscape. Australian organisations are increasingly coming up with AI-driven solutions. At the AEHRC, we’re using the technology to create digital solutions to some of Australia’s greatest health challenges.
The Australian e-Health Research Centre (AEHRC) is CSIRO's digital health research program and a joint venture between CSIRO and the Queensland Government. The AEHRC works with state and federal health agencies, clinical research groups and health businesses around Australia.
