The paper on identifying novel biomarkers of Alzheimer's disease was highlighted for its high quality, originality, and significance to the field.
CSIRO researchers contributed to the paper ‘Multi-Omics, an Integrated Approach to Identify Novel Blood Biomarkers of Alzheimer’s Disease‘, published in the journal Metabolomics.
Members of the journal’s editorial board selected the article for recognition with an Editor’s Choice award, citing the achievement as a ‘testament to the quality of your work and the impact it will have on the scientific community.’
The researchers developed an approach to detect novel indicators of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) in the blood. By comparing molecules found in the blood of people with and without AD, they were able to identify molecular signatures associated with the disease. The researchers then associated these molecular alterations with changes in metabolic processes.
In the future, their innovative approach may form the basis of a biomarker panel for stratifying dementia patients in clinical trials.
