Bridging artificial intelligence innovation and regulation: Yan Chia joins the conversation
Artificial intelligence (AI) is a hot topic in healthcare, with cutting-edge technology changing the healthcare landscape. It’s crucial that regulatory frameworks evolve alongside these advancements.
AEHRC’s Yan Chia weighed in on the topic as a panel member at the recent Medical Technology Association of Australia conference.
AEHRC is working to bridge the gap between AI-driven Software as a Medical Device (SaMD) innovations and their real-world impact. We have implemented a Quality Management System (QMS) to ensure SaMD innovations meet regulatory standards while being effective once implemented.
With AI technology evolving rapidly, a more flexible and creative approach to QMS is necessary to keep pace with developments. We invest heavily in educating our researchers about the importance of QMS, enabling them to translate their innovations from research into real-world solutions.
AEHRC emphasises collaboration with industry partners to align AI innovations with regulatory requirements and market needs. Our aim is to ensure compliance with regulations while enabling AI innovations to deliver tangible healthcare benefits. Ultimately, this benefits all Australians by improving their health outcomes.
The Australian e-Health Research Centre (AEHRC) is CSIRO's digital health research program and a joint venture between CSIRO and the Queensland Government. The AEHRC works with state and federal health agencies, clinical research groups and health businesses around Australia.
